Graphic 1

Environmental Justice conference illustration for posters and book covers.
Title: Environmental Justice (2006)
Client: National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)
Goal: Client requested several images and ideas to be included in a single graphic for posters, book covers, and thank-you cards.
Solution: Many NIEHS posters, including this one, have the same graphic requirements: show humans, the natural environment, positive human influences, and negative human influences. Photo collages are usually the solution, but a limited photo collection creates lots of repetition. I took a risk and proposed a brand-new illustration, knowing it would mean more time on the project, but I believed it would lead to a stronger graphic.
Result: After several revisions we reached a solution that greatly pleased the client and impressed the attendees at the meeting. The graphic is now used on the website for NIEHS Environmental Justice and Community-Based Participatory Research.
